Juju Dhau Recipe | Homemade Plain and Flavored Yogurt from Scratch

Plain yogurt, strawberry yogurt, and blueberry yogurt – these creamy, light dessert looks great and tastes delicious! These homemade yogurts are like juju dhau (Nepali yogurt) that every kid must have tried. If you have not then you can follow this yogurt recipe to make one for yourself. There is nothing better than homemade yogurt with your favorite flavor to cool down on a hot summer day. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

Whole milk – 6 cups

Cardamom – 4

Plain yogurt – 2 tbsp

For Strawberry Yogurt:

Frozen strawberry – 1 cup

Sugar – 1 tbsp

Water – 1 tbsp

For Blueberry Yogurt:

Frozen blueberry- 1 cup

Agave syrup – 2 tbsp (can be replaced by sugar)

Water – 1 tbsp

Steps:
  1. Boil whole milk, and add cardamom. Keep stirring occasionally. Let it simmer on low heat and reduce 1/2 cup.
  2. Turn off the heat and let it cool down to the point where you are able to dip your finger. (should still be warm)
  3. Add 2 tbsp yogurt and stir up and down for 5-6 minutes until bubbles are formed.
  4. In the meanwhile, pre-heat the over to warm/low. Turn it OFF after 5 minutes.

For Blueberry Yogurt:

  1. In a small pot, add frozen/fresh blueberries. Add 1 tbsp of water. Let it cook over medium heat for 3-4 minutes (covered).
  2. Mash the blueberries. Add agave. Cook 3-4 minutes more until a thick paste is formed.
  3. Keep it aside to cool down.
  4. In a plastic container, add blueberry paste, yogurt mixture and cover with the lid.
  5. Place it in tray with towel to keep it warm and put in the oven (oven is not turned on). Leave it overnight.
  6. Refrigerate yogurt for 1 hr. Homemade delicious yogurt is ready to serve.

For Strawberry Yogurt:

  1. In a small pot, add frozen/fresh strawberries. Add 1 tbsp of water. Let it cook over medium heat for 3-4 minutes (covered).
  2. Mash the strawberries. Add agave/sugar. Cook 3-4 minutes more until a thick paste is formed.

  4. In a plastic container, add strawberry paste, and yogurt mixture and cover with the lid.

  6. Refrigerate yogurt for 1 hr. Homemade delicious yogurt is ready to serve.

For Plain Yogurt (JUJU Dhau):

  1. In a plastic container, add the yogurt mixture and cover it with the lid.
  2. Place it in a tray with a towel to keep it warm and put it in the oven (the oven is not turned on). Leave it overnight.
  3. Refrigerate yogurt for 1 hr. Homemade delicious yogurt is ready to serve.
