Homemade Chicken Chatpate

This recipe shows you all how to make chicken chatpate in your own kitchen. I am sure many of you have seen the news/vlogs on viral chicken chatpate in Pokhara. If your mouth is watering watching those vlogs of people eating Pokhara ko chicken chatpate then you are in luck with this recipe (chicken chatpate). Those vlogs inspired me to prepare this recipe (viral chicken chatpate Pokhara) so that you do not need to travel to Pokhara 😉to try the chicken chatpate. More importantly, this recipe does not add any food color, zero food color, and no deep-fried chicken – period. This recipe will bring a smile to your face and your body will thank you as well.💙

Ingredients:

To Marinate Chicken:

0.7 oz boneless chicken (thinly sliced)

1/3 inch ginger (minced)

1 medium garlic (minced)

1/2 tsp cumin powder

1/2 tsp chili powder

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 tbsp soy sauce

To Fry Chicken:

2 tbsp cooking oil

marinated chicken

To Prepare Red Sauce:

1 tbsp cooking oil

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

1 garlic (finely chopped)

2 medium tomatoes (chopped)

salt to taste

2 tbsp kashmiri red chili powder

2 tbsp all-purpose flour + 1 tbsp water

1 cup water

To Prepare Chatpate: (Serving 1 person)

1/4 cup onion (finely chopped)

1 tsp green chili (finely chopped)

1/4 cup cilantro (chopped)

1/2 cup boiled potato (chopped)

1/2  cup waiwai

1/3 packet waiwai masala 

1/4 cup overnight soaked red chana

1/4 cup overnight soaked green peas

1/4 cup daalmoth

1/3 cup fried chicken

2 tbsp homemade red sauce 

1/2 tsp lime juice

1/2 tsp olive oil

1/4 tsp black salt

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 tsp chaat masala

1/2 cup puffed rice

Instructions:
  1. To boil potatoes, cut the potatoes in half before boiling. Boil on high heat for 10-15 minutes until a fork can be inserted all the way in.
  2. Transfer to a flat surface to cool for 5-7 minutes. Peel and chop into small pieces.
  3. To marinate the chicken, combine all the ingredients and set it aside for 15 minutes.
  4. Heat oil over high heat and add marinated chicken.  Stir-fry for 10-12 minutes over medium heat.
  5. Transfer to a bowl and keep it aside to cool down.
  6. To prepare red sauce, heat oil over high heat. Add cumin seeds and finely chopped garlic to fry for a couple of minutes.
  7. Add tomatoes and stir-fry over high heat. Add salt and let it simmer for 4-5 minutes.
  8. Add kasmiri red chili powder. In a small bowl, mix all purpose flour and water and pour on the tomato mixture.
  9. Add 1 cup of water and let it simmer for 4-5 minutes.
  10. Let it cool for 5 minutes before grinding to a fine paste. Let it cool down completely.
  11. To prepare chatpate, arrange all the ingredients in a seperate bowl.
  12. Mix all the ingredients except puffed rice. Add Puffed Rice at the end and give a good mix. Spicy Chicken Chana Chatpate is ready to serve.
